UAE: AED 50 per day, no more grace period
On 11 February 2026, the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICP) unified overstay fines at AED 50 per day across every visa category — tourist, visit, and residence. The old grace period of roughly ten days was eliminated, so the meter starts the day after expiry. Fifteen days over costs AED 750; three months costs about AED 4,500. You settle through ICP smart services, GDRFA for Dubai visas, an Amer centre, or at the airport when you exit.
Kuwait: the residency fine doubles after the first month
Late iqama renewal in Kuwait costs 2 KD per day for the first thirty days, then 4 KD per day after that, capped at 1,200 KD. Many people still quote a flat daily rate — a two-month delay is not 120 KD, it is roughly 180 KD, and it climbs fast from there. Saudi Arabia keeps its tiered structure: SR 500 for the first offense, SR 1,000 for a repeat, deportation risk after that.
Gratuity: Kuwait and Saudi Arabia use very different formulas
Kuwait (Labor Law Article 51, monthly-paid workers): 15 days of wage per year for the first five years, one month per year after, capped at 18 months of pay. Resign before three years of service and you get nothing; three to five years pays half; five to ten pays two-thirds. Saudi Arabia (Articles 84–85): half a month per year for the first five years, a full month after, with resignation tiers of one-third (2–5 years) and two-thirds (5–10 years). The classic mistake in Kuwait is using the 10-days-per-year figure, which belongs to daily-paid workers, not salaried ones.
